PRRT&HS Day Two

Started the day meeting the gang for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at Perkins. Got my annual serving of Eggs Benedict. From there, the vendor room opened with much anticipation at 9:00 a.m.

I was actually a bit disappointed with the vendor room. A few vendors I was hoping to see weren’t there. Funero & Camerlengo sold out of their initial G28 supply within a few short hours. Steve Funaro shared that he’ll have even more new Pennsy models coming out over the next few months.

Many presentations to choose from. I went to sessions on the Lykens Valley Railroad, the Philadelphia Piers, and Bruce Smith did an excellent presentation on the B60 series of baggage cars.

Dinner was a road trip to Hooters, then off to model railroad open houses again.

PRRT&HS Day One Recap

Day one lasted until 11:30 p.m., so hence this morning update…

The day started with 44 of us on a chartered bus to Burnham, Pa., where we got a tour of the Standard Steel plant. “The Standard” is the only US manufacturer of forged rail car wheels. They also make rail axles. It was really cool to be with 10′ of a 2,300 degree chunk of steel being shaped by a hammer press!

After a stop for lunch, it was over to the Lewistown station, where members were offered a tour of the Society,s archives. Then, train watching. We had about a dozed Norfolk Southern and one Amtrak train over three hours. I’ll be paying some video to my YouTube channel once I have a broadband connection.

Then, back to the hotel. Dinner at Summerdale Junction, across from Enola yards. PRR photos adorn every wall!

John Frantz kicked off the presentations with a talk on creating the right mix of Pennsyrr hoppers on a layout. I followed with my talk on the York Haven Line. As a bonus, I played a video produced by Standard Steel for those who weren’t on the tour.

HO Scale PRR Class P70, P70R Coaches Announced

On the heels of their successful 1935 Broadway Limited release, The Coach Yard has announced that it will produce the PRR Class P70 and P70R coach in brass.

Visit to Joe Henry Kline’s Model Railroad

The last issue of The Keystone included a pictorial of Joe Henry Kline’s photography and modeling work. I recently had an opportunity to visit with Joe Henry’s sons, Art and Rob, and take additional photos of the model railroad.

I have created an album dedicated to Joe Henry’s work at photos.pennsyrr.com. Enjoy!
